Local Stars doing way cool things

WeddingWire, the nation’s leading wedding technology company, just announced that Ventura's own LaStarr & Company has been selected to receive the WeddingWire 2010 Bride’s Choice Awards™ for Wedding Cakes.

According to the press release, "The annual Bride’s Choice Awards recognizes and celebrates excellence in quality and service within the wedding industry, as determined by recent reviews and extensive surveys from over 500,000 newlyweds... LaStarr & Company is among the top five percent of all vendors in the WeddingWire community, which includes over 100,000 wedding professionals across the US and Canada." Stay tuned for my story on Ventura wedding cake trends in the upcoming bridal issue of the VC Reporter coming out next week.

And on a completely different note, even though their farm stand is closed for the winter, McGrath Farm is hardly hibernating. They have begun partnering with local restaurants to start a Conscious Oil Collection Program. With help from California Bio-Diesel they are able to take the restaurants' waste vegetable oil and turn it into clean-burning Bio-Diesel that fuels their farm equipment. There are quite a few restaurants with whom they hope to launch this program but, for now they are giving shout-outs to Sage Restaurant, Fraiche, and Real Food Daily.

And, its almost CSA time again at McGrath Family farm - and this year, based on customers' requests for more fruit, they have decided to partner with other farmers to create a CSA box that offers more seasonal diversity. The program starts on March 23rd, so sign up now. Also, mark your calendar for their Spring Grand Opening on March 17th from 4-8pm. If it's anything like last year's, there will be food and music and lots of down home fun.
